Why I wrote The Circle Blueprint
I was a weird kid. When I was in elementary school I liked to visit my adult neighbors and learn about their life. Pretty strange, huh? For some reason I cared about people and wanted to understand them better.
That interest has never gone away. Perhaps it is my love for people that drew me to become a minster, then a therapist and finally a coach. One thing I know is true. I really love what I do every day. I make my living doing that which I love; conversing with people about how they can make their life, their relationships and their work more meaningful and successful.
I must be pretty good at it because I have been successful beyond my imagination. I make plenty of money. I have an amazing marriage, great kids and really good friends. I am amazingly blessed.
I tell you this because it is the beginning of the story about The Circle Blueprint. My good friend and coauthor, Greg Miller, had previously been someone whom I had coached. We spent many hours talking about his life and business. I remember one day at Harvard University where he was completing an executive MBA program, he brought up the idea of writing a book about all that I had learned about helping people create an effective life.
I wasn’t too keen on the idea. I have no confidence that I am a writer and was already pretty busy in my work. A few years later he brought up the idea again and, this time, he wouldn’t let it go. So, he hounded me to write and we set out to write a book together. The project morphed a few times and ended up with a book, The Circle Blueprint, a free online assessment that Greg constructed (that was way over my head) and four workbooks that go along with the content of the book.
I wouldn’t have done all of this work without Greg’s persistent push. But, now that I have it, I see the possibilities that he saw and I missed. I can now take my ideas to hundreds of people. I can now sit on the front porch of people I don’t know and help them to make their lives better. I invite you to pick up a copy and give it a read. It is short and easy to understand. Who knows, you might come across an idea that transforms your life.
