Finding Your Power!!!
Over 30 years ago Mohnish Pabrai and some of his business friends hired me to facilitate their annual offsite. I put together a process I called an “Owner’s Manual” that identified each participant’s unique gift and provided guidance as to how to best align their life with that gift.
Mohnish took his “Owner’s Manual” seriously and began making changes. He sold his IT business and became a professional investor, modeling his style after Warren Buffet. Mohnish went on to distinguish himself in the investing world and regularly credits his “Owner’s Manual” as one of the most significant influences in his success.
I now get calls from all over the globe from people who follow Mohnish on social media and who want me to construct an Owner’s Manual for them. I have completed over 30 and am regularly amazed at how useful this guidance has been for people who want to know how to bring their uniqueness to their world.
Too many people spend their vocational life just working a job to make a living. Work is drudgery. It is only a means to an end. They count the days to retirement even though they have no clear idea of what they will do when they have more time. They just want to stop doing that which steals life from them.
Others are pushing themselves so hard because they believe that enough money and/or success will get them to a place of happiness or freedom. Too often this is more of an illusion than a reality and they either die trying to get to their goal, get there and realize it is unfulfilling, or just keep moving the goal posts.
Steve Jobs told a remarkable story about discovering his power. His favorite course in college was calligraphy. When his degree program limited his ability to take more calligraphy classes, he quit and came back just to take calligraphy. It seems clear that whatever attracted Steve to calligraphy also guided his development of the Macintosh commuter and Pixar movies. He had a special gift for the intersection of beauty and simplicity that was the key to his wild success.
What is your unique gift? How well is your life aligned with it? How can you be your most powerful self until you are utilizing your most natural, most powerful, and most satisfying skill? This is the reason you should discover your power and align your life with it.
