What Can You Control?

One of the most simple and powerful lessons we can learn in living an effective life is to distinguish what you can control from what you can’t and then focusing only on the things in the first category.

There are many reasons to be fearful in the face of this crisis.  Even though many people experience no or only mild symptoms, those for whom the virus infects the lungs can be in serious trouble.  Quarantine might help but no one can avoid all possible exposure to the virus. So, what can and can’t you control?

You can’t control:

1.Catching the virus.  No matter how careful you are, there are no guarantees.  No sense worrying about this one!

2.What will happen to you if you get sick.  Hopefully, things will turn out well but you never know.  No sense worrying about this one either.

 You can control:

1. Social distancing.

2.Washing your hands…a lot!

3.Washing your groceries.

4.If possible, working from home.

Perhaps the most important thing you can control is who you choose to be in such a challenging time.

1. You can choose to hoard or share.

2.You can choose to worry or laugh and love.

3.You can choose to be focused only on your personal safety or you can care for the people in your life.

Who will you choose to be?
