What is Your Circle

  • By Jack Skeen

What in the world is your “Circle”?  It is a pretty simple concept but one many people don’t think that much about.  Everyone gets out of bed for some reason, right?  You might get out of bed because someone is making you and if you don’t get up they will pull off your covers and throw you on the floor.  Or, you might be getting out of bed because you have responsibilities for people in your life that you don’t want to disappoint.  Or, you might be getting out of bed to learn something that is important to you.  There are as many different reasons to get out of bed as there are people.

But, consider how important it is to know why you get out of bed, or better said, what is truly important to you.  What is important to you is the fundamental driver that shapes your life.  Your life will never be any richer than that driver allows.  Let me share my “Circle” with you.

I get out of bed because I care about the people whom I coach.  Many of them depend on me to guide them through some very important life and work issues.  If I do my job well, I will have a big impact on their choices and decisions.  Their life will be greatly improved.  I also get out of bed to provide for myself and my wife.  I want to make sure I am not a burden to my family in my old age.  I also get out of bed for you.  I want to share what I have learned with as many people I can with the time I have remaining.

Those things shape my life.  I book a lot of hours on the phone and person to person because the people I talk to matter to me.  Sometimes I am tired of talking but I don’t quit.  I save a lot of my money and choose to live a pretty modest life.  I am developing a team of people to join me in using the things I have learned to impact the lives of others.

What is in your “Circle”?  How would you like to change your “Circle” to make your life more impactful?
